The Symphony of Water
We pick you up at your hotel around 9.00 in the morning to drive to the area of Vicovaro along the ancient Tiburtine Way. Here flows the River Aniene from which sources and waterway the ancient Romans got most of their water supplies. Equipped with caskets and light you will be walking inside the now dry channels of the roman aqueducts, dug 2000 years ago in the rock of the cliff above the river.
Following these breathtaking experience you will seat and relax in the cloister of the Monastery that the Franciscan friars built during the Middle Age on the top of the rock dominating the river's gorge, and you will enjoy a typical home cooked Italian meal.
After lunch, on the way back to Rome, we will stop in the ancient town of Tivoli, where you will visit the word famous Gardens of the Villa d'Este, the renaissance residence of the Cardinal Ippolitus, where the water of the Aniene still flows from every corner into imposing and fantastic fountains.
(Because of long stretches up and down the hill this tour is recommended to people in good physical conditions. Some of the footpaths can be uneven or slippery so trekking shoes are required. Light and protective caskets will be provided by the organization.)
