| A Tour Of Rome Specially Designed for your Children, a bit of History and Art in a lot of Fun |
We will start with the Coliseum (only outside) and take a picture with the one of the men dressed like gladiator while I will be telling your child/children the story of the real ones, then we will walk along the old chariot race stadium the Circus Maximus to reach the Bocca della Verita' (mouth of the Truth), an ancient lie-detector machine, put your hand inside and see what happens…
We might then drive to the time elevator cinema, to have a clearer idea of life in the old times and the birth of Rome, leaving it we walk to the Trevi fountain where you’ll throw a coin if you’ll like to come to Rome again or to express a wish
We keep walking up to the “Santa Maria della Concezione” Church more known as the Capuchins Bone's Church, quite a chilling experience, they have decorated every corner of the walls of their crypt using human bones and skulls. The inscription at the entrance says: "What you are now, we used to be; what we are now, you will be". The Bones have long been considered holy relics and revered as having mystical or medicinal powers.
If possible, we should try to be at the Janiculum hill exactly at noon while a canon shot, powered by soldiers in old uniforms, will inform all the Romans that it’s time for lunch
We might then take a rest at Villa Borghese Park, (The total park surface is 80 hectares, and there are 35 fountains (good for splashing), 15 minor buildings, 14 small edifices, ten monuments and many prestigious sculptures), we might rent a bike or a tandem to stroll around or just walk to visit the largest public park inside the city of Rome.
We might go on with the famous Catacombs. Most children like the underground walks of theirs galleries feeling very much like Indiana Jones, even without understanding the historical importance of the place.
In addition we might visit:
The church of St. Ignacio where is an incredible false dome, a perfect optical illusion
The only pyramid in Rome, the one of Caio Cestio, in white travertine marble
The children’s museum of Rome called “EXPLORA” an educational and entertainment venue for children. Maybe the single best attraction in Rome. Children are free to touch, experiment, and discover the wonders of communication, technology, the environment, and much more.
The Gladiators’ school where at the end your kids will try to become a gladiator himself and has the chance to move a bit more then what is possible inside churches or archaeological sites
Part of this tour can be easily walked, but the Ideal, also to avoid your kid/s getting too tired, would be to rent a car or a van. The tour described is a all day one, but you might select sights and make it last as long as you’d like (at least 3 hours).
