Archaeological Rome Walking Tour : Old Roman Shopping & free time

The old via biberatica inside the Trajan Markets
The Forum of Trajan - The monumental Column - The Covered Markets - The Museum of the Imperial Fora
The Basilica of Trajan was as large as Saint Peter, the Emperor's decorated Column as high as the hill that was cut to make place for the new multilevel Markets and the big central Hall ...

Built at the beginning of the II century the “Mall” adjoining the Forum of Emperor Trajan can be considered the first covered shopping centre of history. Entering the big central hall of the complex, once used for the public distributions of money and food, you’ll be surprised by the powerful architecture and by the beauty of the marble decorations. Descending along the slope of the hill, you’ll walk back into the past: you’ll enter the perfectly preserved galleries along which opened the little shops, walk along the still paved streets like the Via Biberatica, the road of the “Bars”, see the multistoried buildings and the cisterns that characterized this incredibly preserved corner of ancient Rome, to finally walk down into the Forum of Trajan with its majestic Column and the remains of the largest Basilica of ancient Rome.
